Snailbeach Lead Mine Open Weekend

Walk in the footsteps of industrial pioneers at Shropshire's biggest lead mine...

A jam packed weekend organised by Shropshire Mines Trust and Shropshire Caving and Mining Club, including

  • underground guided tours and all mine buildings open
  • visit the Snailbeach Smelter usually closed to the public
  • guided walks Blakemoorgate Cottages, restored miner squatter cottages
  • watch a blacksmith at work in the Smithy
  • electric train in operation on the site
  • displays from local organisations
  • evening bat walk with Shropshire Bat Group

Snailbeach mine was one of the world's most productive lead mines, and the site is home to the best selection of mining buildings in the U.K. All tours are free but donations welcome. 

It is advised to wear sturdy footware to see the full site.
