As part of the Government's 25-year Plan for the Environment, an independent review of designated landscapes in England (National Parks and AONBs) was led by the journalist Julian Glover, and published in 2019.
The Review praised the current work of the AONB Family and recognised their huge potential to deliver more for nature, climate and people. In January 2022, the Government published its response to this independent Landscapes Review, which will shape our work for years to come.
The Government’s response was accompanied by a 12-week consultation to seek views on the Government’s proposals. The Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership, along with the National Association for AONBs submitted views.

Julian Glover visited the Shropshire Hills in February 2019. His 2-day tour included site visits to look at conservation work, planning issues, visitor pressure and awareness raising activities. He joined a series of meetings to hear views around farming and land management, and about interest in extending the AONB boundary or changing the designation.
